Heart health gets a lot of attention, but the state of our lungs — which provide oxygen and allow us to speak, sing and smell — historically hasn’t received the same amount of concern.
That is until COVID-19 hit, of course.
Like many lung specialists, Dr. MeiLan Han, a pulmonologist at the University of Michigan Health System, was overwhelmed with patients in the spring of 2020 and each surge that followed.
Suddenly, everyone wanted to know how to take care of their respiratory system, but most people have no idea how healthy or unhealthy their lungs are, Han writes in her new book, “Breathing Lessons: A Doctor's Guide to Lung Health.”

Great insights! It's true that lung health often gets overlooked until issues arise. Dr. Han’s advice is a timely reminder to prioritize our respiratory wellness. As someone running an online clothing store for men Hamilton Township, I’ve learned that staying healthy and active directly impacts productivity—breathing better truly helps us live and work better every day.
Great post! It's eye-opening how little attention we give to lung health until it's threatened. Along with breathing exercises and a healthy lifestyle, I’ve found that regular detoxification, like a colonic San Diego, can support overall wellness, including better respiratory function. Our lungs deserve as much care as our heart—thanks for highlighting this!
Great insights, Dr. Han! Lung health truly became a priority during the pandemic, reminding us how vital our respiratory system is. As an online Diabetes Educator, I often stress that managing chronic conditions like diabetes also supports lung function—especially since high blood sugar can impact respiratory health. Prevention and awareness go hand in hand across all systems!
Dr. Han’s insights are a wake-up call to prioritize our lung health daily. Simple actions—like staying active, avoiding pollutants, and remembering to refill scripts for asthma or other respiratory conditions—can make a big difference. Breathing well is something we often take for granted until it’s compromised. It’s time we pay our lungs the attention they deserve.
